Karelian birch - amazing texture of wood
Karelian birch is famous for its unusual marbletexture, pearl luster and amber shade of wood. It has long been known outside of its homeland and stands alongside rare tropical species, which are measured in kilograms, not cubic meters. The tree is valued not only for the beautiful pattern, but also for the solid wood, which is almost unaffected by rotting, and products made of it can last for centuries.
Most scientists agreed that the phenomenon ofKarelian birch is explained not by belonging to a particular species, but by natural anomalies, such as a mutation. Of its seeds, mainly ordinary birch grows, and only 5-7 specimens from a hundred have signs of a valuable tree. Birch Karelian grows slower than usual, and its life is less than 40 years. Special signs begin to appear in the tree after a couple of decades, before that it is impossible or very difficult to determine that this is the Karelian birch.
The tree is distinguished by the amazing color of woodfrom light golden to dark amber and painted by nature itself in the form of fanciful dashes, tochechek and marble overflows. On beautiful and very solid wood drew attention even under Catherine II. Since then, the tree has received the name "Tsarskoye" and was used to make furniture for the nobility, souvenirs, jewelry, caskets, panels and other handicrafts.
There was a time, at the beginning of the 20th century, when the numberbirches began to decrease rapidly due to uncontrolled logging, therefore, starting from the 30s of the last century, they started breeding it in reserves, which continues to this day.
