Portable speaker with your own hands in just a couple of days

Increasingly in modern life we use the mostdifferent portable gadgets. But more often than others, gadgets associated with playing music are used. It is very convenient, resting on the nature or giving, riding a bicycle or practicing in the gym, turn on a favorite piece and enjoy a quality sound. In this regard, many people have a lot of portable speakers and boomboxes. Their cost varies from a few dollars to a few hundred.

Portable speaker with your own hands

But some people do not want to spread the N-th amount for such a simple device and are wondering how to make a portable column with their own hands.

In this article I will tell you about several variants of its production.

How to assemble a portable speaker yourself

Before starting work, prepare the necessary materials, tools and equipment.

To make a portable speaker yourself, you will need:

  • Amplifier board with volume control.
  • 2 speakers with a power of 2 to 3 watts and a resistance of 4 to 8 ohms.
  • Charger charge controller for Li-ion batteries.
  • Li-ion battery, you can from the phone.
  • A wire with an audio output of 3.5 mm is better to take from the headphones.
  • Two-position switch.
  • Wires.
  • Bolts of M3.
  • Plywood 4 mm.
  • Paint, it is better in a bubble.
  • Tools - screwdrivers, soldering iron, fret saw.

When working with these tools, do not forget to follow the safety rules.

The case of a portable speaker with your own hands

Let's start with the case. The sound quality of the speakers depends largely on the material of the case. Plywood perfectly suited for these purposes, because it resonates well and, thanks to this, the sound is juicy, saturated and with good bass. Simply pushing the speakers into the cardboard box, you never get such a high-quality sound as from a plywood enclosure. The dimensions of the body are 180 x 70 x 60 mm. These are the optimum proportions for the best sound of the speakers. We put the marking on the plywood and cut it all with a jig saw. Drill holes for the speakers. We clean the edges with sandpaper. We glue with PVA glue all the details, except for the front part with holes for the columns. On it we drill the holes for the volume control and the switch. Make holes for the micro-USB connector and an audio output cable. From the plywood, cut out small squares (1 x 1 cm) and paste them in the corners of the body for further attachment of the cover.

Assembly

Solder the wires to the battery and isolate itinsulating tape. Solder the wires to the speakers. Note that one contact is "+" and the other is "-". Please note this with further connection. Apply the lid, fix it with adhesive tape and drill at the corners of a hole 2.5 mm in diameter. Tap the M3 thread.

The whole body is well sanded with sandpaper. Carefully remove the dust and color it. After the paint has dried, we paste the speakers onto the hot glue. We screw the amplifier into the previously made hole. We glue the switch. Solder the battery wires to the charge controller card in the places marked B + and B-. Be careful not to confuse the polarity. At this stage, you can check the operation of the circuit by connecting the wire of the charger. The red LED indicates that the charge is on. The blue diode will light up when the battery is fully charged. Plus from the right speaker solder to the contact "ROUT +", and minus to "ROUT-". Similarly, solder the left speaker to the contacts "LOUT". To the charge controller board, solder the wires with the contact "OUT +" and "OUT-32,". The module is glued to hot glue. We fix the battery. We pass the wire with the audio output to the previously made hole. To protect against a breakage, we tie a knot from inside it. Solder the wires emerging from the wire. Solder the remaining contacts to the switch and amplifier. We fasten the front panel with M3 bolts.

We connect the audio connector to the phone and check it. A portable speaker for the phone with your own hands is ready. It's not too difficult, especially if you are good at technology.

We go further. The next model of the portable speaker with their own hands will be collected from improvised means. As a basis, we will use a case with a speaker from a broken computer speaker and some materials purchased from AliExpress.

In addition, we need:

  • The card decoder (with its help music will be played not only from USB-flash, but also from SD-cards, and from the phone).
  • Power controller for Li-ion batteries.
  • The amplifier is pam8403.
  • Battery.
  • 2 LEDs.
  • 2 resistors for 220 kOhm.
  • 2 switches.
  • Wires, including a wire with an audio output.
  • 1 variable resistor at 5 kΩ.
  • Soldering accessories.

Schema assembly

First we weld the entire circuit, except for the input forminijack and buttons, so it's more convenient to insert it into the case later. The battery is used by Philips at 1050 mA. The consumption of the board is about 100 mA, so the battery lasts about 10 hours.

Solder the power controller to the battery. After this, through the switch solder wires from the power controller to the decoder board. Repeat the connection with the amplifier. Solder the LED to the decoder card, and the LED to the amplifier board, passing through the resistor 10 kOhm. Do not forget about the polarity. Now solder the resistors. They are needed in order to have less rattling and extraneous sounds during playback. We connect the board to the amplifier and start them in turn. If the LEDs light up and the sound is reproduced, then the circuit is correctly assembled.

Now you can solder the variable resistor to adjust the volume. Checking. Turn on the power board and the amplifier and turn the volume control.

We collect the case

At the next stage we will collect the circuit and the caseportable speakers with their own hands. We disassemble the column. We unsnap the groove of the cable holder. Drill a hole in the case under the minijack with a diameter of 3.5 mm. We make holes for LEDs, volume control, buttons and USB-connector. We paste the decoder card inside the case. Before attaching the buttons, we solder the native buttons of the decoder card with a soldering iron or a building hair dryer. Check the work of the column and collect the case. The portable column, made by own hands, is ready.
